whoa, i’m listening to the star wars soundtrack, and all of a sudden i realize, the channels are reversed! the bass is on the right and the high strings are on the left! first time i noticed that… and then when i start typing i just realized that wait a minute, i’m not in the orchestra playing (youth orchestra flashback), so when your in the audience the channels are supposed to be that way.

that’s my crazy anecdote for the day.

it’s sort of strange, i’m listening to the gattaca soundtrack (it’s one of my favorites), but when i started listening to it, right after some bach concertos, it seemed so dead and muddy. i don’t know if it was just because of the difference in the mix or what. time’s like this that i wish cd’s were in a higher def. format. bring it on, my sennheiser’s can handle it! 😉

very interesting rms q&a on /. also very interesting commentary. in response to rms’s statement about his non-belief in relativism, i think there’s an assumption that when people have arguments, that they are usually arguing about the same thing in the first place (which is rare). ethical pluralism is based i think on the acknowledgement of different base frameworks (call them what you will: worldviews, paradigmatic structures, etc.) which may be incommensurable (and ambiguous), and not just based one side being more right than any other.

hmm, def. deserves more thought than i can give it at this time. maybe later on in the week when i am not procrastinating on a paper.

in between paper writing, i came across the current tom tomorrow

austin was warm and muggy today, but i spent most of it in air-conditioned comfort, which will be what i’m doing if i’m here this summer, so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. back to writing my paper. ethics and amazon.com…
