Bloc Party

Wow, Bloc Party‘s new album, Silent Alarm has caught me by surprise. I haven’t been this excited about an album in a while. I’m loving it. A lot. Here’s their opener:

Looks like they’re going to be in town right after SXSW. (Hmm, Troub is sold out already)

New Year, New Music

Not feeling so hot today, but it’s been a while, so I thought I’d kick off the new year with some new music.

First, for some leftovers from 2004:

OK, now onto 2005.

It’s been a while since I put up any music, but Jason’s recent post on The Killers reminded me of putting up some of the stuff I’ve been listening to that I’d label as ‘damn catchy.’ Yeah, the Killers are pretty good in the regard, but here’s some more:

More: Wrens, Sparta, Subset, The Album Leaf

I must have been under a rock. I’ve just caught Rilo Kiley’s new single, Portions for Foxes [6.2MiB MP3]. It knocked my socks off. Got the KCRW rips from this Barsuk thread (has track-listing as well). Here’s a local mirror.

Reference (Psalm 63:9-11):

My soul cleaveth unto Thee; Thy right hand holdeth me fast.
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the nethermost parts of the earth.
They shall be hurled to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for foxes.

Snow Patrol (AMG) was in town a few weeks ago and recorded a Morning Becomes Eclectic session that I caught the other day. Their new album, Final Straw is amazingly catchy, with addictively crunchy chords; an interesting cross of indie electronic/britpop with a strong (pleasantly nostalgic) indie/altrock sound.

Here’s a song that sounds sorta like a Notwist/Sebadoh cross:
