it’s sort of strange, i’m listening to the gattaca soundtrack (it’s one of my favorites), but when i started listening to it, right after some bach concertos, it seemed so dead and muddy. i don’t know if it was just because of the difference in the mix or what. time’s like this that i wish cd’s were in a higher def. format. bring it on, my sennheiser’s can handle it! 😉
very interesting rms q&a on /. also very interesting commentary. in response to rms’s statement about his non-belief in relativism, i think there’s an assumption that when people have arguments, that they are usually arguing about the same thing in the first place (which is rare). ethical pluralism is based i think on the acknowledgement of different base frameworks (call them what you will: worldviews, paradigmatic structures, etc.) which may be incommensurable (and ambiguous), and not just based one side being more right than any other.
hmm, def. deserves more thought than i can give it at this time. maybe later on in the week when i am not procrastinating on a paper.
my pal gordon has started documenting his musical finds. neet. btw, yeah, the dj rid set (real) kicks butt.
the new vir2l design of course deserves mad props. it’s awesome. of course, the whole euro aesthetic, while cool, just seems… done by tons of people already. quite coincidentally, my roommate may be working for bethseda software doing 3d engine programming. they both share the same parent company, zenimax
i just got back from the airport about an hour ago. unfortunately, i only brought one 32mb memory card (forgot to load in my 48mb card, doh), so i didn’t get to take all the pictures i wanted to. i did get some cool plane ones though.
in between paper writing, i came across the current tom tomorrow
austin was warm and muggy today, but i spent most of it in air-conditioned comfort, which will be what i’m doing if i’m here this summer, so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. back to writing my paper. ethics and amazon.com…
wow, i’ve never seen the t.w.i.n.k.i.e.s. project before. oh the fun that gets done in the name of procrastination.
mp3.com lost. sorta sucks, because what they’re doing isn’t really wrong. greed by the riaa.
wow, i’ve been really busy the past few weeks, especially this past week. final projects def. took up a huge chunk of time, both in my photo class and doing a group project in another class.
i’m very happy about the results of my photo project, it really turned out well. it’s pretty much a complete dump of the photos i took the month before, layed out 60 thumbnail images, printed out onto quadtones, 21 pages, matted and trimmed. i ended up laying them out flat, 7 x 3. there are definitely some neat things that arise from the arrangement, and a lot of stuff for me to work on when i have some spare time. i have to say though, that printing and matting these were huge bitches.
next is a quick jaunt down to austin, checking out a job offer, writing a few papers, and cleaning the hell up.
nikolai continues to add neat new features to his blog, now residing at fairvue.com. hmm, strange that the cookie doesn’t pass between www.fairvue and fairvue… filing that away for my “things to look up when i can afford to procrastinate” list. random($foo) of, continues it’s graceful deterioration. i believe the technical term for the phase it’s in is languishing.
i’m in a bad mood because i’ve been spending the whole week dealing w/ stupid problems capturing and editing video (really crappy lab macs w/ a targa 2000 board that doesn’t quite work right). then, to top it off, my computer’s been locking up some, and it’s been running out of memory at the most inopportune times. oh, and i installed icq2000a, and now i can’t connect at all to icq at all, or downgrade back to 99b successfully.
