well, i got back in town last night, moved in this morning, and have been hanging around trying to get my registration stuff straightened out. also, while i was at it, i finally created the virtual host for huffimuffiguffi.org
If you can guarantee the results in advance, it’s not an experiment. – scott mccloud on feed.
awesome, i am currently stuck in iraan texas. that btw, is officially in the middle of nowhere. they don’t have the parts to fix my car, but the library does have an internet connection. yay for technology. needless to say, i will be running a few days late.
on ice capsThe thick ice that has for ages covered the Arctic Ocean at the pole has turned to water, recent visitors there reported yesterday. At least for the time being, an ice-free patch of ocean about a mile wide has opened at the very top of the world, something that has presumably never before been seen by humans…
you know, it never occured to me, but it really does make sense. why the heck bother arbitrarily limiting varchar sizes on the db when it’s not going to save space or have other performance considerations and can be done on the app side.
speak of the devil and he shall call. it has occurred to me that i should perhaps do more personal writing. it seems to me to be one of the more important things that i’ve been ignoring.
so, i was almost successful in posting from lynx. i was checking to see if my site was down (it’s not, but i can’t get to it from my home system). anyway, after i do a bit of writing, i will be packing up my computer (and the rest of my stuff) and driving back to la tomorrow. i also finally am getting a chance to reassess what i’ve accomplished this summer, and what i want to do in the coming year. i need to write this down somewhere.
i am also stressing a bit about my system integrity. a friend who has a login on my system had his usc student account compromised. although my logs look ok, and i’ve since disabled his login, it’s still one more thing i don’t need on my mind.
saw the way of the gun, the directorial debut of chris mcquarrie. both he and one of the actors, nicky katt were there and said a few words. the movie was alternatively really bleak, and bleakly humorous. really great script, and in the end, a atisfying film experience: …whether the end is happy or not…depends on how closely you’re willing to look at the details.
useless trivia: the official one-sheet was being shown, which had one gun per regulation as opposed to the two gun original.
Hertzfeld spills all about Eazel. there’s a part two as well.
