pat buchanan sounds surprisingly lucid and intelligent when he’s not being a nazi. although you gotta admit that stealing the reform party’s federal funding is pretty damn low.
fun to read, at least.
the boston independent media center (a subsite of the imc) has mp3s of the latest nader rally,
as well as chomsky’s recent talk on globalization.
oh, for a look at what goes on in uncensored news feeds which don’t get shown in the final edition, take a look at spin, a documentary made w/ footage from the 92 election.
stanford law prof lawrence lessig expounds on what the courts are thinking
The regulation of porn raises a question of free speech. Courts get that. So too does the regulation of copyright raise a question of free speech. But courts don’t yet see that. They don’t yet understand the ways in which this state sponsored monopoly over “who can say what” can, at times, interfere with the “freedom of speech.” They don’t see it because for 200 years, copyright law has functioned with little interference from the First Amendment. There have been a handful of cases raising extreme claims of conflict, but no clear case that yet addresses how courts are to evaluate the intersection of copyright law and the First Amendment.
incidentally, lessig just had a debate w/ mpaa moron jack valenti. summaries on /.
If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate.
oh yeah, and read about the space fungus on mir. theoretically, you could probably use that fungus to decompose landfill, leading you w/ easy breezy vinegar and other organic compounds.
my silly little dhtml search box now works w/ mozilla. also now will send older js browsers to the archive page, which has a non-dhtml search box.
right about now, i’m really wishing that the built-in mozilla dom viewer worked.
found it again, going to write it down this time. ie dom -> w3 dom:
if (document.getElementsByTagName("*")) { document.all = document.getElementsByTagName("*") }
last night i chopped up a honeydew melon that i had gotten from the local ghetto supermarket (good old 32). i’m not complaining about the market. it’s cheap (honeydew, 5lbs for $1), although i don’t quite trust the meat and you have to keep an eye out on expiration dates. anyway, cutting up the one melon i got was fun (swords are cool) and even after me and my roommate had our fill, i was left with two very full disposable glad food containers which are sitting right now in the refrigerator.
haha, around now, you might wonder, why has this normally sparse weblog suddenly turned into a navel gazing journal-like entity? it’s a simple matter, actually. it’s 6am, i’m tired and bored, yet i don’t want to do any work, and i don’t much feel like sleeping. well, napping maybe, but i don’t want to sleep through the whole day. that, and it’s been quite a while since i’ve just rambled.
just taking a bit of time off from all the work i know i should be doing.
freaky, looks like my dhcp lease / networking was working funny because apparently (sometime today probably) the year got set to the year 2019. chameleon clock (sweet program, definitely worth the $15 it cost to register a few years ago) let me know a couple minutes ago that my time was off by a hair under 6939 days. as young william miller said, “that explains so much.”
tangent: check out the stillwater web site (it’s been up for months and months) – oh wait, it’s not half as cool as it used to be. nm
